Guide for Competence (Safety Refreshment) Programmes.
This Guide has been written to provide information to companies in the ESI that may wish to apply to the Electrical Workers Registration Board for recognition as approved competency programme providers and run competency programmes for those of their employees who are registered and licensed. Among other things, it recommends competency programme content that is appropriate for persons carrying out PEW on ESI assets under ESI procedures.
The EWRB has considered the Guide and advised the EEA that it has been approved as setting out a professional development programme that is suitable for persons engaged on work.
The Guide includes a model declaration that companies may complete to provide each licensed person with evidence of his/her satisfactory attendance at a competency programme that the person may present to the EWRB with his/her application for licence renewal. Another model declaration is included for the use of any EWRB auditor of the competence programme. It should be noted that, while the EWRB has not issued any competence programme requirements for the holders of employer licences, this being properly covered by the licence holders system of operation, the Guide may be helpful if the holder were to use its content in such competence programmes it conducts periodically for the persons working under its licence.
