FlexTalk is an industry initiative seeking to maximise participation in flexibility services by exploring the feasibility of adopting a common communication protocol across the electricity network.
It has the potential to transform how we operate the electricity system and support customer engagement in demand flexibility by enabling communication between an electricity distribution company (EDB) and flexibility supplier (aggregator).
The trial is using EVs as a case study to achieve active managed charging and has recently added Solar and battery flexibility to the trial.
At the conclusion of the project, a technical guide will be produced to enable interoperability between electricity distribution companies and flexibility suppliers across the sector.
The trial will also provide a foundation to work from to develop the technology that supports demand flexibility and highlight future areas of work that need to be considered.
