Setting Automatic Voltage Regulation Equipment (Technical Note)

Note: File may be downloaded after completion of your purchase

Technology advances have provided greater flexibility for configuring voltage regulation equipment. The extra functions mean that designers have to configure the equipment to coordinate settings with those of neighbouring voltage regulators where they have not had to in the past. In recent times there have been some instances of poor voltage regulation outcomes especially around asset ownership boundaries, which have led to voltage outside design limits or accelerated wear of tap change mechanisms.
Many distribution companies do not appear to have standardised approaches towards setting voltage regulating equipment. This technical note describes some of the shared experiences of some distributors with setting voltage regulation equipment.
The information has been prepared as a technical note - to provide information and identify issues for industry consideration and feedback - while a deeper understanding of best practice is developed.
