Operating for over 75 years, the EEA is committed to providing the New Zealand electricity supply industry with leadership, expertise and information on technical, engineering and safety issues affecting the electricity industry.

Our Membership :   The EEA has over 300 Members and 35 Corporate Members, including engineers; industry CEOs; network and generation managers & staff; electricity retailers; contracting managers & staff; equipment suppliers & manufacturers; energy industry analysts & consultants; engineering consultants; HV installation owners & engineering staff; government departments, agencies and officials; technical and business development managers; technical field staff; health & safety managers; technical standards writers; systems planners; and others involved in the generation, transmission, distribution, retail and utilisation sectors of the New Zealand electricity supply industry.

Providing representation to Government, media, regulatory and professional bodies on engineering, technical and safety issues :  Representing members' views on engineering, technical and safety issues to decisionmakers is a key role of the EEA. The EEA monitors these issues by utilising industry specialists, and keeps the membership informed, offering advice and assistance as required.

Development, promotion and maintenance of industry standards, guidelines and best practice documents :   The EEA works closely with industry, key government agencies, overseas organisations and Standards NZ to source international safety information and safety benchmarks; to maintain appropriate engineering and technical standards for industry; and to ensure that industry rules and guidelines reflect international best practice. The EEA is focused on excellence in industry performance and continually reviews, updates and educates industry on engineering, technical and safety processes and improvements.

Facilitating and co-ordinating professional development training initiatives for industry staff :   The EEA plays a pivotal role in providing professional development services to its members and the wider industry, and has developed close relationships with a number of New Zealand, Australian and UK engineering schools and training providers to offer leading edge professional development training and resources to New Zealand engineers.

Providing an independent forum to debate the technical and safety issues and needs of the industry :   One of the key benefits of joining the EEA is access to the information service provided to members.  The EEA Conference, as well as regularly held courses and workshops, are important events for updating members and industry.  The availability of web-based information, alerts, guidelines and support documents; document development; online event registration; and other membership services, are an important part of the EEA's ongoing communication strategy.  The EEA will also be using this portal to raise the profile of electricity industry infrastructure engineering events, opportunities and careers.
