Best Paper Awards Announced at Prestigious Electricity Engineers’ 2010 Conference

Over 60 presentations from national and international speakers, 600 delegates, visitors and exhibitors, 99 trade exhibitors and tightly contested award presentations at the 2010 EEA conference ensured an excellent forum to discuss challenges faced by the New Zealand electricity supply industry.

“The theme of this year’s conference ‘Leadership and Innovation' encapsulated a number of issues and challenges for the electricity supply industry, both here in New Zealand and overseas,” said Peter Berry, EEA Executive Director.

The EEA recognises papers of outstanding quality by presenting the Best Paper Awards as part of the Conference Dinner & Awards Ceremony.

“The judges commented on the high standard of papers presented at this year’s conference and on the value of the papers to our industry,” said Peter Berry.

Awards were presented for the following papers:

Best Paper (Member)

Bryan Leyland, Leyland Consultants, ‘Lessons from the accident at the Sayano-Shuskenaya Hydropower Station’.

Best Paper (Non-member)

Herman Vogel, GE Energy, ‘Moisture assessment in power transformer insulation’. 

Best Paper (Student)

Robert Cardwell & Luke Sinclair, University of Canterbury, Engineers Without Borders NZ, ‘Implementing a Solar Power System for a High School in Tonga’.

IET Best Paper Presentation

Kieran Kennedy, Mitton Electronet Ltd, ‘The Effective Design and Testing of Earthing Systems’. 

The EEA Best Paper Awards were presented at the 2010 EEA ‘Leadership and innovation' annual conference held from 17-18 June in the Christchurch Convention Centre.

As well as a wide diversity of papers the conference had an extensive trade exhibition that showcased the technologies, equipment and services that are vital for a modern electricity supply system.
